Ziv Lakein
Tutor
Ziv is from Newton, Massachusetts. He is currently a senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and is studying mechanical engineering. He attended JCDS Watertown for elementary and middle school and Gann Academy for high school. He spent his summers growing up in Israel and going to Moshava IO. He then did the Hevruta Gap year Program in Jerusalem through the Shalom Hartman Institute. From eighth grade through the end of high school, Ziv led the Saturday morning youth groups at his synagogue, tutored kids in math and science, volunteered with people with disabilities through Yachad New England, worked as a summer camp counselor at the JCC in Newton, and most recently, taught Hebrew school at the Jewish Community of Amherst.
Ziv grew up speaking both Hebrew and English, and is fluent in both. As a kid, he got into leading services from a young age. He began by helping to lead the end of Shabbat services at his synagogue and then learned how to read Torah for his Bar-Mitzvah. In college, he reads Torah and leads Shabbat services at UMass Hillel. Ziv loves working with students to support them in finding the parts of Judaism that they are passionate about and engaging them through the same meaningful and fun ways he experienced when he was younger.
Outside of school, Ziv really loves all sports (both playing and watching), as well as the beach and drawing.
